[Finished] Rolling Restart again March 31, 11pm

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

[Finished 03:58am PST] The Rolling Restarts are finished for the day.

This evening, much like last night, we will be continuing our project to improve both the performance and maintainability of our network, by moving many of the servers that host Second Life’s regions onto a new network.

This will require us to restart several hundred regions. Unfortunately, since every time a region restarts, it moves onto the first available hardware of the appropriate class, we cannot predict which exact regions will be affected. However, there will be in-world warnings prior to the restarts, as usual.

[2:35PM - Pacific] Our service provider has contacted us to say they are still working on the problems.  We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

We are aware of an issue where some regions are being billed up to two days early. This is being looked into and as soon as any additional information is available, we will be sure to let you know!

Source Code Server Maintenance

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Our service provider be upgrading our public SVN (source code server): svn.secondlife.com to 1.5 on Friday night, between 10pm and 2am PDT.  The downtime should be approximately one hour during that window, and should not affect any other services. This will not affect any running Second Life simulators.

[RESOLVED] Traffic updates late for some regions

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

[RESOLVED 8:16PM PDT] Traffic calculations have been updated properly.

The process for calculating traffic updates is running a bit late today. We expect it to finish later today. Our best estimates at this point are that traffic should be fully updated around 4pm PDT today. This is a rough esitmate only.

Possible PayPal Disruptions Later This Evening

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

PayPal has announced a maintenance shutdown of their Website this evening, beginning at 11 p.m. Pacific and concluding by 1:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

It’s possible that Residents who attempt PayPal-backed transactions in Second Life will be unable to complete them during part or all of the maintenance time.  Transactions which flow directly through PayPal Web services, such as creating new agreements, are obviously likely to be impacted; however, LindeX processing for Residents with established agreements may also be unavailable.

If we obtain additional useful information or notification that the scope or scheduling of their work has changed, we’ll update here.
