If you are still unable to transact, and you have changed your card information within the past hour, please give the process an additional hour to clear the backlog.

Both we and the service provider will be monitoring the pipeline today for recurring problems. If you are still having problems, please contact us via the Support Portal.

Update 01-21 09:01am : the pilot rolling restart is complete

We will be doing a rolling restart to deploy Second Life Server version 1.25.4 from Wednesday through Friday, Jan 21-23. This version is currently on the “Second Life Beta Server” regions of the Preview Grid, and is a slightly modified version of the 1.25.3 server that is currently deployed to about 10% of the grid.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • Wed, Jan 21, 8-10am: The pilot regions will receive 1.25.4; these are the regions currently running 1.25.3.
  • Thu, Jan 22, 7-11am: Half of Second Life will receive 1.25.4 in a rolling restart.
  • Fri, Jan 23, 7-11am: The remainder of Second Life will receive 1.25.4 in a rolling restart.

As with all rolling restarts, each region will be restarted once as a result of the rolling restart. Most regions will restart over the course of several minutes. If your region stays down for more than 30 minutes, please contact support. Once the rolling restart has begun, there is no way to delay the restart for any given region.

Discussion of this rolling restart will occur in this forum thread.

New Test Viewer: 1.22 RC6 Now Available

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The sixth iteration of the Viewer 1.22 Release Candidate (RC6) has been released. Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have been using the fifth Release Candidate (RC5), you will now be required to update to RC6, which includes the latest bug fixes. Please keep in mind that participation in the viewer Release Candidate cycle is completely optional. This viewer may be installed along side the official 1.21 viewer.

RC6 includes fixes for several raycasting issues, a fix for VWR-7331 (llMapDestination can’t TP to Skybox over 1000 meters, which was made possible in 1.20), and a partial fix for VWR-8503 (Meta-Issue: Textures loading worse in 1.21/1.22). This Release Candidate also includes a number of stability fixes, which make this viewer the most stable release yet. For a complete list of issues resolved, please see the release notes:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22

While we’ve made many improvements, we still need your help to find crash cases and final feedback as we prepare to release the official 1.22 viewer - very soon! Please download the Release Candidate here and start experimenting:

http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

You can participate in discussions about this new Release Candidate here in the SL Forums.

Don’t forget to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com, and be sure to set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.22 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate bugs that are reported in this way.

[RESOLVED] Possible Unicode Character Issue

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

[RESOLVED 5:17 pm Pacific] The fix has been deployed to all Resident accounts.

*****

[UPDATE 3:04 pm Pacific] Engineering has prepared a fix for the scrambled Unicode characters. The fix will deploy beginning at roughly 4pm Pacific, and will take a couple of hours to conclude. Residents who have corrected their own texts will have their repairs preserved; otherwise, the fix will repair the existing text.

*****

We are investigating an issue which may cause unicode (ie non-ASCII) characters to display incorrectly in profiles, group titles, etc.  Until the issue is fixed, affected Residents may correct individual problems themselves by retyping the incorrectly-formatted character in their profile, group information, etc.

[RESOLVED] Grid Emergency Maintenance

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

[05:46am Pacific] The maintenance is now complete and logins have been re-enabled.

[05:08am Pacific]  As per FJ’s post, residents who are already in world will not be bumped offline.  However, there will be a degradation in performance, as access to the database will be blocked, so transactions, teleporting, asset management and actions requiring a database call will not be available. Movement within a region, chat, and voice will all remain available during the database migration.

[05:04am Pacific]  All new logins to Second Life have been blocked in advance of the maintenance.

[04:47am Pacific]  AS FJ blogged yesterday, we are planning to close access to Second Life at 5.30 a.m. Pacific today, Thursday 22nd January 2009 for approximately 60 minutes.

We’ll keep you posted throughout the downtime of progress, and of any changes to the schedule.

[RESOLVED] Network related VPN failure

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

[04:28 am PST] The VPN rack is back, and logins have been reopened. Should you experience a slow login, please try to stick with it rather than trying to reconnect.

[04:16 am PST] Our engineers are now onsite and working on the problem.

[03:38 am PST] The root of the problem appears to be one rack of VPN hosts in one of our colocations. Technicians are on their way to fix it.

In the meantime, we have closed logins temporarily. Please refrain from rezzing no-copy objects and making large transactions.

Due to a VPN problem, you will find that regions inworld might not be visible from their neighboring regions at this time, or that region crossings won’t work.

You might also experience wait time or failure to log in.

[RESOLVED] Logins and In-World Issues

Monday, January 19th, 2009

[RESOLVED 7:12PM PST] All login issues have been resolved and functionality has been restored.

[2:22PM PST] Logins continue to be intermittent.  We will publish info when the issue has stabilized.  Thank you for your continued patience.

[12:14pm PST] - Logins have been re-enabled and all in-world issues have been resolved; however,  login issues may come and go over the course of the next 2 hours. We suggest being wary about rezzing no-copy items and making important in-world transactions during this time.

[Posted 11:08am PST] - Logins have been temporarily blocked due to a database issue. You may experience effects of this issue in-world, such as problems with Teleporting or rezzing objects. We suggest refraining from rezzing no-copy objects or making any important transactions until this is resolved.

[RESOLVED] InWorld Issues - Logins Disabled

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

[RESOLVED 8:01 pm PST] All login issues have been resolved and functionality has been restored.

[UPDATE 7:36pm PST] Logins are open but functioning intermittantly. Our technicians are working to resolve the issue.

[REOPENED 3:09 PM PST] Logins have been restricted again. Please watch this post for continuing updates.

[RESOLVED 2:26 PM PST]  Logins have been re-enabled.

[REOPENED 2:01 PM PST] Logins have been partially restricted again. Please watch this space for continuing updates.

[RESOLVED 1:46 PM PST]  Logins have been re-enabled. LindeX should also now be available.

[1:27 PST] The Linden Exchange is temporarily disabled.  You will not be able to purchase or sell Linden Dollars from in-world or the website.

[REOPENED 1:08 PST] We are continuing to have problems with the database. Logins have been partially restricted again.

[RESOLVED 11:26 AM PST]  Logins have been re-enabled.

[11:18 AM PST] Unfortunately we are having continued problems with the database. Logins have been partially restricted again whilst we clear a momentary database bottleneck. We expect to re-enable them very shortly, and In-World will not be affected.

[9:47 AM PST] Logins have been restored and all inworld services appear to be functioning normally.  Please feel free to resume your regular activities, including purchases and rezzing.

[9:39 AM PST] Technicians are currently investigating an issue which may interfere with inworld functionality. Logins are blocked. Please refrain from making inworld transactions and rezzing no copy objects for the time being. Please monitor this post for updates and further information.
