We will be doing a rolling restart to deploy server version 1.24.10 to the production Second Life grid.  This includes the server support code needed for the introduction of Homesteads scheduled for January 5.

As usual with rolling restarts, every region will be down once for a few minutes; if your region stays down for more than 20-30 minutes, please contact support.  There is no way to delay the restart of a region once it has been announced.

The rolling restart will follow this schedule:

  • Monday, Dec. 22, 8:00-9:30AM : a pilot roll to ~3000 regions
  • Monday, Dec. 29, 5AM-9AM : half of Second Life will receive 1.24.10
  • Tuesday, Dec. 30, 5AM-9AM : the remainder of Second Life will receive 1.24.10.

Discussion of the rolling restart will occur in this thread in the forums.

[RESOLVED] Inworld services issues

Monday, December 29th, 2008

[RESOLVED - 7:00pm PST] All issues have been resolved and should no longer present any of the previously listed effected services. Should you experience any related issues, please contact us through normal support channels (http://secondlife.com/support/).

[6:13PM Pacific] The database has recovered, however network issues continue to cause the inworld service interruptions noted earlier. Please do not make purchases or rez valuable/no-copy items until the All-Clear is given. Most regions should be up, but you may encounter possible connection glitches.

[4:30PM Pacific] We are experiencing connection failures between parts of the grid. This problem will manifest itself inworld as failed Teleports, problems loading inventory, failure to fully rez (ruthing), etc. Some Residents are currently unable to log in, and we are working with our service provider to diagnose this as quickly as possible. In the mean time, please avoid making important transactions or rezzing no-copy objects.

[RESOLVED] Logins slow or failing

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

[RESOLVED 12:11 pm PST] We haven’t seen any further complications, and are closing this issue as resolved.

[UPDATE 10:50 am PST] One of our network providers suffered a signifcant outage, which may have contributed to the earlier reported login issues. Once their services were restored, our login servers dealt with the rush, and logins should now be back to normal.

We’ll leave this blog open until we’re satisfied all issues are taken care of.

It appears that some of our login servers are struggling, and some Residents won’t be able to complete the login process. Our Ops team is aware of the situation, and working to fix this as soon as possible.
