Announcing a new Test Viewer: 1.21 RC4 is Available

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

We are releasing the fifth iteration of the Viewer 1.21 Release Candidate (RC4). Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have already been using the Release Candidate (RC3), you will now be required to update to RC4 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.20 viewer that you normally use.

In RC4, we have repaired the most pressing bug you reported regarding inadvertent Touch_start events on mouse-clicks. A complete list of fixes is available in the Full release notes.

Please visit the Test Viewers page to download the 1.21 RC4 viewer — or when your Release Candidate viewer prompts you to upgrade to the new version.

You can discuss the release of this new Release Candidate here in the SL Forums.

We expect this to be the final Release Candidate in the 1.21 viewer series, barring any Showstoppers that you may find. Please of course continue to report new issues in the Issue Tracker and set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.21 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate and solve issues that are reported there.

[CLOSED] Connection Issues

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

[10:42 AM Pacific - CLOSED]  It appears that the connection problems are limited to residents who log in via AOL or related partners (e.g. TalkTalk).  This is not something that we have any control of, regrettably, and we would recommend residents to  contact their internet service provider to take further action.

[08:57 AM Pacific]  We are receiving reports from some residents in Europe who are unable to log in to Second Life.  We are investigating this at present and will provide updates as soon as we can.

[RESOLVED] Live Chat Unavailable

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

[RESOLVED 6:05AM PDT] Live Chat is back up and running normally. It appears the interruption was due to a momentary loss of connectivity with our support software service provider. Live Chat service has been restored, but we will continue to work behind the scenes in an attempt to keep this from happening again.

Our Live Chat service for Premium Members if currently down. We are investigating and will have an update as soon as possible.

[RESOLVED] Voice currently offline for essential maintenance

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

[03:14 am Pacific] [RESOLVED]  In-world Voice chat is now back online.

[02:43 AM Pacific]  We have been made aware of maintenance on the database server for the main voice grid on which is taking place now until 3:00 AM PDT.

This maintenance consists of a hardware replacement; voice will be down for the duration of the maintenance.
