[RESOLVED] ~350 Regions currently unreachable

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

[RESOLVED 6:10pm PDT] - All regions effected by the loss of the server rack are now back up and running. If you are experiencing further similar situations, please contact support so that we may further assist you.

[UPDATE 5:50pm PDT] - Almost all regions have been brought back up, but there are still a few that need to be addressed. We expect this to be finished fairly soon and will update this blog as soon as it has been completed.

[UPDATE 4:32pm PDT] - The process to restore the regions is taking longer than expected; however, they should all be back within the next hour or two. Please continue to watch this blog for updates as they become available.

There are currently about 350 regions which are offline due to the loss of a rack of servers. If you find that you are freezing when logging in, or receiving a “region unavailable” message, please try logging in directly to a different region. We are working as fast as we can to restore the regions and expect to have all regions back up within the hour. Please keep an eye on this blog fur further updates as information becomes available.

Second Life 1.21 Viewer is Available Today

Friday, October 17th, 2008

As your login screen may have already told you, an optional viewer upgrade is available today. Announcing the Second Life 1.21 Viewer!

As many scripters are aware, this 1.21 viewer brings you the ability to compile scripts using Mono. (Learn more about Mono in a video tutorial by Torley Linden.) It also includes new LSL functions for “DetectedTouch” — features that will allow a prim to report where on its surface or texture that it has been clicked. This viewer is also a maintenance release: There are over 150 fixes that solve bugs from previous versions of Second Life. Many of these are small improvements that make existing features work more smoothly (like menus, Inventory offers, IM and Chat, Snapshots, Estate tools, and many more).

There is so much to list, please check out the Full release notes. There is a lot worth reading.

Please visit the Downloads page to download Viewer 1.21.6 — or simply click where your older viewer suggests you to upgrade to the new version.

Note: This viewer upgrade is OPTIONAL. You may still log in to Second Life with your current viewer 1.20.17.

You can discuss the release of this new Viewer here in the SL Forums.

Please of course continue to report new issues in the Issue Tracker and set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.21.” We can only investigate and solve issues that are reported in the Issue Tracker.

Possible Support Portal Disruption at 7pm Pacific

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Our support portal vendor has just notified us that they’re planning an hour of high-priority maintenance this evening beginning at 7pm Pacific.

They believe the public features (support tickets and live chat) will be unaffected by the maintenance. However, there is the possibility the scope of the work will change once underway.

[RESOLVED] Support Portal Problems

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

[7:56 AM Pacific - RESOLVED]  The Support Portal pages are now back to normal and Tickets and Chats should be functioning fully.

[7:39 AM Pacific]  Residents may find the Support Portal not working properly, with the Ticket and Live Chat pages appearing with errors or unformatted.  This may result in tickets/chats not coming through.

We are working to restore these pages to normal use and will keep you updated here.

[RESOLVED] Forum logins not working.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

[RESOLVED 11:47am PDT] - Forum logins are working again. You may need to log out of the Second Life website altogether, then login again, to be able to access the forums.

If you are not previously logged in to the website/forums, attempting to login at this point will result in an endless loop of being diverted to the “you must login” page. This should be resolved within the hour, please watch this blog for updates as they become available.

[RESOLVED - ADDENDUM] Updating CC info offline

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

[ADDENDUM 7:32pm PDT] - If your credit card information is stalling on “update pending”, then re-entering your information (sometimes more than once) should properly update your Billing information.

[RESOLVED 5:00pm PDT] - All transactions should now process normally.

[UPDATE 08:21AM PDT] The error is partially fixed, but occasionally transactions might still fail. Paypal continues to work reliably.

[UPDATE 7:00AM PDT] A side effect of the current problem is that until it is fixed, credit card transactions (such as buying L$ on the LindeX or buying an island through the Land Store) may fail. Again, Paypal transactions should not be affected.

[POSTED 05:07AM PDT] There is an unforeseen problem with updating credit card information via our website at the moment.

We are aware of the issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. If you have urgent payments to make, and need to change your billing info to do so, you might use Paypal instead.

[RESOLVED] Credit/Debit card-based transactions currently unavailable

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

[RESOLVED 5:08pm PDT] - The transaction provider is back online and all services should be fully restored.

[UPDATE 3:30pm Pacific] Our transaction service provider remains offline due to a service outage. They will continue their efforts until service is restored. We will continue to post status reports as we receive them.

We’re currently unable to process some credit and debit cards for LindeX buys. In addition, attempts to update your account information at the Website with a credit or debit card will not succeed at this time.

We’re working with our vendor to correct the processing of credit and debit cards as quickly as possible.
