[ALL-CLEAR] Hardware Issue Affecting Logins/Inworld Activies For Some Residents

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

[ALL-CLEAR 23:12] Ops has completed testing and sounded the All-Clear. Logins and inworld issues should no longer be troubling affected residents and groups. Thank you, and enjoy your night!

[Update 22:30] Ops has replaced the faulty hardware, but is still testing. Please continue to refrain from rezzing no copy items or making transactions until the all-clear is given.

There is a hardware issue which is affecting some resident’s ability to login. Some residents inworld may not appear in search, or may appear to be offline. Affected residents may also experience problems rezzing items or making transactions. To be safe, we recommend all residents refrain from rezzing no copy items or making transactions until the all clear is given. Some groups may also experience issues related to group abilities. Ops is at work correcting the problem. Please monitor the Second Life Grid Status Report for further information.

All issues have been resolved and services have been restored.

[Resolved] 500 regions currently down

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

[5:20am PDT] The problem has been fixed and all 50 regions should now be up and running very soon if they aren’t already. :)

[5:00am PDT] We have just gotten word that approximately 500 regions are currently down. We are aware of the problem and are in the process of fixing it. We do not have an ETA for when the regions will be back up but we will let you know as soon as we do or when the regions are enabled, whichever comes first.

The only thing worse than finding a bug in your client is finding half a bug.

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Hi everyone. :)

Some residents have been contacting us in support with problems that seem to have arisen since upgrading to 1.20.15 (formerly the Release Candidate)

While we strive to eliminate bugs in an RC client before it becomes an official viewer, there is always the possibility of problems we did not previously discover. We cannot test on every conceivable hardware configuration before release, so we rely on your feedback to find these when or if they do occur.

If you have a problem that seems to be a possible bug related to the 1.20 upgrade on your system (or if you want to revert to 1.19.1.4 for any reason really), the first thing you will want to do is remove SL from your system and then reinstall the previous version.

How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?

You can find the 1.19.1.4 installer downloads here:
Windows
Mac
Linux

Once you have verified that the problem does not exist in the 1.19.1.4 client, please let the developers know this through the Issue Tracker. If it is not limited to the 1.20.15 version please create a ticket in the support portal and we will do our best to help resolve it.

The 1.20.15 update is an optional update. You can continue to use the 1.19.1.4 and 1.19.0.5 viewers as they are still supported.

Thank you :)

[RESOLVED] Central machine failure; replacement in progress

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

[RESOLVED 07:30 am PDT] The new machine is in place and working.

One of our central machines has failed and we are currently replacing it. That means 1/16 of our residents will not be able to log in, rez items inworld, make transactions etc., and it will impact 1/16 of the groups, which will also be non functional for the approximately 30 minutes this maintenance will take.

[DELAYED] Rolling restart to deploy 1.23.3, Thu-Sat July 24-26

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

A pilot rolling restart to 1/10 of the grid will begin momentarily, and a full rolling restart will happen Friday and Saturday mornings. Please see this post on the main blog for more information.

Update 2008-07-25 05:23 : This rolling restart has been delayed. 1.23.3 is currently running on 1/10 of the grid. The simulator crash rate is not alarmingly higher, but there are a couple of new crash modes we want to investigate before rolling this out to the rest of the grid. We are not going to revert the servers currently running 1.23.3, but leave them on that version. This means that there will be no half-grid rolling restart Friday Morning 07/25.

Do you think you may have missing inventory?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

We have just completed a project that recovered a large set of missing inventory items.

You can check your Inventory “Lost & Found” folder for possible returned items.

The best way to see whether any of your things have been recovered is to clear your Second Life Viewer cache, restart your Second Life Viewer, log back inworld and then check your Inventory. Any recovered items will be located in their owner’s “Lost & Found” folder.

These particular recovered items were not showing up in Residents’ inventories because they did not have a parent folder. Please note that items lost for other reasons would not be affected by this project.

Generally, if you suspect an inventory loss problem, the first thing to do is clear your cache and relog. For more information see the Wiki Inventory page.

We are working on a patch that will put any items that become lost in future because of a missing parent folder problem into the “Lost & Found” folder automatically upon relogging.

[Resolved] LindeX Website Problems with IE

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

[Resolved 11:53 p.m. PDT] The LindeX page should now work properly in Internet Explorer.

Some residents are currently experiencing difficulties with the LindeX exchange page, while using Internet Explorer. Our web developers are working on the solution for this and expect it to be resolved soon. In the mean time, other browsers such as Firefox, or the in-world Buy L$ feature, can be used.

Update 9:51 a.m. PDT We have identified the technical issue and are working to resolve it. Please continue to hold off taking objects to or from inventory, as well as hold off on transfers and transactions.
